In an effort to offer awards that were more true to the Ginza area this year, we selected outstanding displays of spatial design from 89 nominees across the entire Ginza area.
Ginza is currently in a transitional period in terms of the look of its streets and its visitors. The area maintained a peaceful feel overall this year, with many designs featuring ecological motifs treasuring animals or the natural environment. The various displays were an effective communication tool that allows Ginza visitors to enjoy the atmosphere, and seemed to brighten up the look of the streets.
The Hikarimichi display grows more impressive every year, creating an illuminated environment through high-quality design features. It is as if the event brings blooming flowers to the streets of Ginza.
There were also numerous shops that had undergone renovations or were newly opened.
Each shop showcased its individual brand identity through construction and lighting design befitting the character of the Ginza area, and the competition among them seems to add more substance to its streets.
Recent years have seen advances in lighting technologies, and the shops of the Ginza were no exception in incorporating lights into their displays. Each street also featured illumination displays that bathed the town in light.
Though the overall look of the town was in some ways prone to excessive lighting and a tendency towards overwrought colors and designs, the winning shops took a variety of creative measures to express themselves while remaining in harmony with the overall tenor of the Ginza streets.
Ginza is a place where diverse crowds can enjoy the thrill and excitement of extraordinary offerings that take them out of their everyday lives.
Despite constant updating, the Ginza retains a special design that is both sophisticated and refined. There is a perfection about the classic windows of its longstanding shops that seems to give an added dimension of enjoyment to each visit.
Ginza is a town that promises to remain constantly changing, yet all the while enduring in its core beauty and value.
