Shop & Restaurant
The founder left his hometown in Echigo (Niigata) to start a noren (traditional Japanese fabric divider)-dyeing business in Edo (Tokyo).
The business developed and he started to deal in silk/cotton kimono. Eventually Echigoya was founded when he opened a kimono store by the name in Kyobashi Minami-denma-cho in 1755.
The store was moved to the present location by the second owner. More than 250 years after the establishment, the colors and patterns unique to Echigoya are now inherited by the eighth successor.
