The 95th Azuma Odori Dance Festival

With the Shimbashi geisha arts made up of ryotei (traditional Japanese high-class dining) restaurants and geisha, the Shimbashi area is called the ‘Shimbashi of Art.’ Azuma Odori is the art stage where these geisha sing and dance.
The Shimbashi Enbujo Theater was built in 1925 as a place for the Shimbashi geisha to perform. The Azuma Odori Dance Festival began as a commemorative performance of the opening of the theater. It has been held each year and currently features the elegance and charm of the geisha on the stage and a ryotei restaurant meal competition during intermission. There will also be choice sake, so you can enjoy Japan with all five senses. The Azuma Odori Dance Festival turns the Enbujo Theater into a four-day-only mesmerizing and delicious ryotei restaurant. We hope to see you at this gigantic theater-turned-ryotei restaurant for a special early summer moment to conveniently enjoy true Japanese culture that is becoming rarer than ever.

I) Stage: Stage: The festival is a valuable opportunity to experience geisha dance on the grand Enbujo Theater stage in even more radiance. The Shimbashi geisha arts follow three schools—the Hanayagi school, Nishikawa school, and Onoe school. Each year, the entire performance is led by a single school. This year, Headmaster Juou of the Hanayagi school will lead the stage.
II) Cuisine: Cuisine: Shimbashi ryotei restaurants (Shinkiraku, Kanetanaka, Tokyo Kitcho, Matsuyama, Yonemura, and Wanofu) join forces to put on a taste performance at the Azuma Odori Dance Festival. You can enjoy competing shokado bento (boxed meal) in a ceramic box made by each restaurant based on a menu from Tokyo Kitcho as well as a convenient ryotei sushi bento in a wooden box at your seat. III) Intermission: Intermission: The second floor lobby will be set up as a Japanese lounge with tea ceremony by geisha and a Dom Perignon booth on either end and ryotei refreshments, recommended Japanese sake, and Azuma Odori limited-edition products on sale in the middle.
